Digital Project Management: The Challenge

As a no-brainer, one can immediately come up with a simple and straightforward definition for Digital Project Management as follows: Digital Project Management is the application of Project Management process, methods and techniques to managing and delivering Digital Media Projects. As ‘projects’, digital media projects are no different from any other types of  projects in terms of general project management process and skills required. This was

Digital Mediasimple, but there is more to it.

Regardless of business or service areas within which Digital Media projects are defined or conducted – let it be content creation, software/web/app development, or digital media professional services, like running campaigns – a project manager is required to manage the project within the life cycle and deliver the end product. Digital Project Management Series

Digital Project Management Series

What is Digital Project Management all about? Who exactly is a Digital Project Manager? What are the differences – if any – between a Digital Project Manager, a Digital Producer, and a Web Project Manager? What are the required skills, and the responsibilities of, a Digital Project Manager? In a series of posts, starting with this one, I’d like to try to write down my thoughts and perspective on these questions. Any feedback is highly appreciated, as these are just my thoughts and clearly there are many experienced Digital Project Managers out there who can share their views and experience in this regard.

At this point – i.e. the beginning of the series – I can think of covering the following:

  1. The Challenge: why a digital project manager is required to have very good subject matter knowledge
  2. The Skill Set: the diverse skill set and subject matter knowledge that a digital project manager needs to know very well
  3. Methodology: which one is best for managing digital media projects: Agile, waterfall, or a hybrid?
  4. Roles: differences between a digital producer, digital project manager, and web project manager.

Here we go then! Check out the first part of this series from the next post here.

Brand Yourself!

I really like the idea behind Brand Yourself; this service provides very clear and easy ways for anyone to identify and boost their online impression through a set of simple wizards. Their free service allows the user to submit and optimize up to 3 links about their online identity (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc). This service also tracks user ranking and awards them with ‘Badges’ accordingly: on my first attempt I was able to obtain 3 badges as follows:

  1. ‘Hello World’ badge: because I had at least one piece of positive content about myself on the first page of search results about me.
  2. ‘Spotless’ badge: because I didn’t have any negative content about myself on the first page of search results about me.
  3. ‘Top Dog’ badge: because the number 1 result search results about me was actually about me (and not someone else) and was also positive.

Looks like Online Reputation Management services are becoming very popular these days. By leveraging SEO and Social Media altogether, they provide a new service that so far, has been almost exclusively offered by technology consultants and firms.  All sounds interesting and promising. I’ll continue to use the free service, explore it, and maybe will write about it again shortly.
